My Healing Journey: From Burnout and Chronic Symptoms to Holistic Wellness and Nervous System Healing
My passion for holistic wellness began through my own struggles with chronic health issues. For years, I battled with eczema, joint pain, IBS, acne, allergies, anxiety, and insomnia—even sleepwalking. Despite numerous doctor visits, I was told everything looked “normal,” but I knew something wasn’t right.
I adapted for a while, trying to push through—but I eventually realised that living with daily discomfort, fatigue, and anxiety wasn’t truly living. I didn’t want to just cope. I wanted to heal.
In 2007, I began my journey into natural healing. I turned to whole food nutrition, natural remedies, gentle movement, and self-care, knowing that real healing had to come from within—not from ‘band-aid’ solutions. Over time, I saw wonderful changes. Many of my symptoms began to ease, and I learned how to manage the rest with compassion and consistency for myself and my body.
This transformation sparked something in me. I knew that if I could heal my body and get my energy back, others could too. That passion led me to study holistic health and wellness for both mind and body, and I’ve been learning ever since.
But healing doesn’t stop with physical symptoms. Despite my progress, I still felt unfulfilled in other areas of my life. Emotional eating, inner frustration, and constant confusion led me to work with a life coach who helped me uncover the root of these patterns. That experience was so profound that I trained in a transformational 18-month Life Coaching program—and it changed everything. I realised how deeply the mind and body are connected, and how true wellness must look at both.
Then in 2023, I went through what many call a Dark Night of the Soul. I experienced C-PTSD resulting in adrenal burnout, hormone imbalance, emotional numbness, social anxiety and a full nervous system shutdown—also known as functional freeze. It was the most challenging chapter of my life, and yet it gave me the deepest tools and insights. I dove into the study of nervous system regulation, embodiment, and trauma-informed healing practices—and slowly, I came back home to myself.
Now, I guide women through the same journey: getting to know themselves, healing their bodies, balancing their nervous systems, regaining their energy, and rediscovering their own joy for life.
Because life isn’t meant to be just survived. It’s meant to be lived—and enjoyed.
About Gail
My name is Gail Wicht and I am the creator of Thrive and Shine – Coaching with Gail.
I studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and qualified as a Certified Holistic Health Coach (CHHC). I also completed an intensive 18 month Life Coaching course. During the course I had to apply what I learned in my own life where I experienced profound changes. Although I studied Holistic Health Coaching, which looks at the person as a whole, the Life Coaching really allowed me to be able to go more in depth with those areas people may be struggling with that are not only nutritionally related. Other courses that I have completed include Personal Nutrition, Gut Microbiology, Introductory Human Physiology, Nervous System Regulation, Embodiment, Trauma Informed Healing Practices and Elemental Archetypes.
I am constantly studying how the body and the mind works and how we can improve our lives holistically. I believe that everything works together including what we feed our bodies, what we feed our minds, how we move our bodies and knowing ourselves intricately.
Prior to starting my private coaching practice, I worked as a travel agent for top travel companies in South Africa and the UK. I managed the travel bookings for corporate and leisure travellers. Travelling is still one of my passions and I love to see other countries and cultures.
